Innonet has applied for a temporary license to provide Wi-Fi service to Cheongpungho cruise ship and monorail using TVWS on an output basis of less than 1 watt (W).
TVWS is an empty channel that is not used locally in the microwave (UHF) frequency band (470 to 698 MHz) distributed for TV broadcasting. According to the current radio law, the output standard of TVWS mobile devices is limited to 100 milliwatts, which makes it difficult to provide services such as cruise ships and monorails with relatively large coverage.
The deliberation committee has given a special case for the Innonet to provide services on the output level of less than 1W only for Cheongpung Lake cruise ships and sightseeing monorails.
Innonet will start a demonstration project after prior technical verification to prevent interference with TV broadcasting and notification wireless microphones, which are the primary users of the UHF frequency band.
As a proposal result,
the Ministry of Information and Communication give innonet a special regulatory designation paper for installation.
