Innonet will install a high-speed Internet of Things (IoT) network using TV idle bands (TV White Space, TVWS) in more than 100 regions of the island of Jeollanam-do. In areas where wired Internet is difficult to establish, Internet services such as Wi-Fi will also be available.
Innonet will participate in the 2018 IOT Product Verification and Proliferation Project of the National Information and Communications Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) until December. Wi-Fi service is provided for small villages in the mountains, homeless and returning villages, farms, barns, and farmhouses, where it is difficult to create an internet environment.
The smartphone application will establish an infrastructure that can provide IoT services, such as remote-circuit management such as closed circuit camera (CCTV) video confirmation and temperature, humidity, and water quality information.
Innonet will supply devices that provide 10km wireless communication service using TVWS, which is empty to prevent digital TV frequency (470 ~ 698MHz) interference. The communication speed can be up to 20Mbps. It is a device equipped with the IEEE 802.11.af modem chip, which is a global TVWS standard, and can use Internet service without establishing a communication facility such as a wired network.
It significantly reduces the cost of using high speed internet service compared to the existing Long Term Evolution (LTE) backhaul equipment. Innonet expects to reduce the cost of building and operating telecommunication networks such as wired and microwave to one-tenth that of LTE.
In addition to TVWS equipment, Wi-Fi, local area network (LAN), CCTV cameras and temperature and humidity sensors will be installed by default, expanding IoT services in the mountainous regions of the island. The total project cost is 1.2 billion won, and the IoT construction cost is fully supported. In accordance with the beneficiary's principle, beneficiaries will pay 20,000 ~ 30,000 won per month.
Innonet CEO, Ho-sang Yoo, said, “We will contribute to the life of returnees and returnees, "(Work & Life)".
