Create local customized living and welfare services with remaining frequencies

Ministry of the Future, selected TVWS project… Coastal CCTV, IoT Fine Dust, Wireless Internet Service in Mountain Areas

Life safety and welfare services are created using TV frequencies that are left unused locally.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced on the 6th that it selected Ansan City Hall, Jecheon City Hall, and Yeoju City Hall as the support projects for the TVWS system for cooperative TV bands.

Ansan City applied for a wireless Internet network for tourist sites such as fishing villages, Daebudo Observatory and CCTV for preventing coastal accidents, and Yeoju provided fine dust information using the wireless internet and IoT (Internet of Things) sensor in the auto camping site. I envisioned and submitted. Jecheon is planning to provide various services such as wireless internet in mountainous areas where internet is difficult to use.

The three selected local governments will use cognitive radio technology and TVWS to provide new ICT services for personal safety and welfare in each region. Cognitive radio technology refers to a technology that recognizes and utilizes unused frequency bands.

In particular, the frequency band used in this project is 470 ~ 698MHz for digital broadcasting, which has wider radio range and higher transmittance than existing Wi-Fi.

Choi Yeong-hae, Director of the Ministry of Future Affairs, said, “We will continue to make efforts to revitalize the common use of frequency to efficiently use limited frequency resources.” “We hope that new service models will be discovered through the TVWS construction project of local governments.”
