KT (CEO Chang-Kyu Hwang) announced on the 19th that it will begin to develop a disaster-safe mobile base station carried by individuals in cooperation with domestic SMEs such as Juni Korea and Innonet.

The project was jointly proposed at the end of June and was selected as the 'K-Global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Promising Technology Development Support Project' hosted by the Information and Communication Technology Promotion Center (IITP). The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for business cooperation earlier this month, and began two years of full-fledged technology development, starting with a kick-off meeting in the middle.

The company explained that a disaster-prone mobile base station developed in the form of a backpack can communicate instantly anytime, anywhere. When a backpack-type mobile base station is developed, it can be carried by individuals and can be operated without additional installation work. Rescue agents will be able to carry the equipment and dispatch it to the front line of the disaster site so that they can quickly provide communication services within Golden Time, the company explained.

In addition, although the transmission section between the mobile station and the subscriber station and the mobile station-carrier network has been single-way communication with 3G or LTE, the backpack-type mobile station has left TV white for LTE, satellite, and local broadcasting. By supporting space frequency in triple, various backup networks can be configured.

Song Hee-kyung, head of KT's Public Customer Division, said, “We expect that the disaster-safe backpack type mobile base station will maximize the survivability of the disaster safety net by strengthening personal portability and triple backup network.” We will strengthen our cooperation with Korea to secure global capabilities in the field of disaster safety communication and actively promote global market entry. ” Staff Reporter Park, Ji Sung jspark@dt.co.kr
